An agro-industrial leader committed to food security in West Africa.
SEDIMA, The vision of a Man, the Destiny of a Nation
In the heart of the 1970s, a period of profound change for Senegal, a 21-year-old young man found himself at a crossroads. His name was Babacar Ngom. A scholarship to France was waiting for him, promising a comfortable future and a clear-cut career as an engineer, in accordance with his family's wishes.
But in the heart of this young visionary burned another ambition, more audacious, more risky, but deeply rooted in the land of his Homeland: that of becoming an entrepreneur and contributing to the food self-sufficiency of his country.
In 1976, with unshakable conviction, Babacar Ngom made a choice that would not only define his life, but also transform an entire sector of the Senegalese economy. He gave up the royal path of expatriation and persuaded his parents to support him in a project that many considered crazy.
His starting capital was just 60,000 CFA francs, the equivalent of barely 100 euros, and his army consisted of 120 chicks. Thus, in a modest family farm in Malika, was born the dream that would become SEDIMA (Sénégalaise de Distribution de Matériel Avicole).
